THE INSANITY OF PASSING: RISK, RADICALISM, AND OTHER NECESSARY DELUSIONS IN CURATORIAL PEDAGOGY
Monday 22 June 2015
19.00 – 20.30
Hordaland Kunstsenter, Klosteret 17, 5005 Bergen
Third lecture in a series on different typologies of curatorial practice organized by the The Norwegian Association of Curators.
An tripartite approach to curatorial pedagogy: departing from Mary Walling Blackburn’s text ‘XOXO Insanity, Institution’ in e-flux journal #26 (June 2011), she spoke about the problem of space for risk in art institutions generally; she spoke about how to teach risking taking through the example of Authority Figures, a practical curating course she taught at the New School in New York; and she was going to speak about collaboration as curatorial pedagogy through her co-curated exhibition Failing to Levitate, which was a project focused on risk and failure. She did not do this third. Instead, she spoke at length about the film Time Passes by Norwegian artist Ane Hjort Guttu.
